About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Xihmai means -humanity- in Hñahñu, the language of the Otomi who live in the State of Hidalgo, mainly in the Mezquital Valley. Therefore, it will be the word that identifies us, because as Terencio said: “I am a man and nothing human is foreign to me” and even less in a university of Christian inspiration, ecumenical aspiration and Lasallian charism.
Knowledge is not randomly generated. It is always the product of research and many hours of reflection, reading, analysis, experimentation and synthesis, to finally make the result of this research accessible to the recipient.
The usefulness and relevance of the generation of knowledge and its clear expression to make it accessible must have a very clear focus and be understood by those who make up the university, in order to achieve academic solidity in the work carried out.
It is necessary to maintain scientific rigor, both in reflection tasks and in expression work, so that the result really satisfies the needs or solves the problems initially raised. Universities must be at the forefront and be an example of efficiency. This is possible if the university respects itself and demands itself with solid criteria. The educational relevance will be a natural result, it will be the irrefutable conclusion, because behind the final work there will be many hours of research, effort and dedication.
Xihmai, humanity, aims to be that space for students and teachers from our university, or from others, who want to express the product of their reflection. It is a publication edited by the Universidad La Salle de Pachuca, semiannual and refereed, Open Access, of a humanistic nature, specialized in studies on social transformation in the areas of social sciences and humanities, aimed at researchers, academics and students interested in these fields of knowledge.

Type of review
Manuscripts considered publishable undergo a double-blind peer review process.
Peer Review Process
Submissions are initially assessed by the editor-in-chief. If the manuscripts don't meet the minimum requirements, outlined in the submission preparation checklist, they are rejected. In addition, the editor-in-chief might reject the papers whether they are out of scope or suitability for the journal policies.
Submissions that pass the initial screening process are later reviewed by the editor-in-chief. The editor-in-chief might ask the authors for corrections and supplementary files.
Afterwards, the editor-in-chief assigns two external peer-reviewers, experts on the topic, to evaluate the submission. The peer-review process might a couple of months. The journal has adopted a double-blind peer-review process in which the identity of the peer-reviewer and author is anonymized. Each review ends with a recommendation provided by the peer-reviewer. The peer-reviewer might recommend the editor-in-chief to publish the manuscript with no corrections at all. However, the peer-reviewer might recommend to reject the paper or publish it after major or minor corrections.
If there is a case of controversy, that is, when the opinions of the peer reviewers do not coincide in their final decision, the decision will be sent to a third reviewer, who will determine the final verdict.
Lastly, the editor-in-chief takes into consideration the recommendations from peer-reviewers. The editor-in-chief might decide to send the paper to other peer-reviewer, accept or reject the paper. This decision is final and cannot be appealed.
The 3 possible ratings are as follows:
- PUBLISHABLE WITH MODIFICATIONS: we support authors closely in improving their articles, promptly pointing out the corrections they need to make, in detail in the text itself.
- PUBLISHABLE WITHOUT MODIFICATIONS: the text is ready to continue the publication process.
- NOT PUBLISHABLE: the text requires specific background work, does not contribute to the discipline or has a high percentage of plagiarism, so it cannot be considered to continue with the publication process.
The decisions of the members of the editorial committee to accept or reject a document for publication are based solely on the relevance of the work, its originality and clarity of exposition, as well as on the relevance of the study in relation to the editorial line.
It is guaranteed that the material submitted for publication will be considered as reserved and confidential material while it is being evaluated and, in the event of rejection, no evaluator member may make the original public.
The identity of the evaluators is protected at all times, guaranteeing their anonymity.
