Changes in the “Reforma Educativa” have shaped the Professional training regarding English as a foreign language. After the “Reforma Integral para la Educación Básica” (2009, 2011), the “Reforma Educativa” (2013) and the “Estrategia Nacional de Inglés” (2017) passed, English was incorporated as a compulsory subject in the curricula for Elementary Education. In Mexican Teacher Training State Colleges, students attend English courses so that, later, as Elementary school teachers, they may convey this knowledge to their pupils, contributing to Bilingual Education as a goal.
This contribution is a partial report of a qualitative research carried on at the Teaching Training Center CREN BJ, during the academic year 2019-2020. Its objective was to identify the opinions of the students enrolled in the workshop “Taller de Enseñanza de Inglés a niños”. Students seem satisfied with their training process; however, they think that the pedagogical strategy was too vague and should have been pursued for longer than a single semester.
