The article presents a debate between the phenomenological approach of Goffman's performance and the post-structuralist vision of Butler's performativity, regarding the expression of gender in a group of Mexican
homosexual men named bears. Through the conduct of semi-structured interviews and participant ethnographies, it was sought to know the ways in which Mexican bears define themselves and how they make up and transform
the community of which they are part. This text was finalized in October 2019 and the thesis from which it derives was supported by Conacyt and the PAEP of UNAM.
