This is a comparative investigation of the main causes that originate the abandonment of the studies by students of public and private high schools in the city of Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo; Specifically in private high school José Lbarra Olivares and public high school 49 Abundio Martínez. This research aims to help students, parents and teachers to know the main causes of school dropout. Using a qualitative method based on questionnaires and an observation guide. Surprising results were achieved, since in both schools students responded that it is reprobation and low academic performance which causes mainly to deserve. It was concluded that there is a higher desertion rate in public schools than in private schools, but in both, students have the same reasons to leave school.
