Abstract

Eli Pariser is an American author, activist, and entrepreneur. He is a contributor to the New York Times Review and the author of the book The Filter Bubble: How the Net Decides What We Read and Think. Curiously, the original title of the book, published in the United States in 2011, is The filter bubble: what the internet is hiding from you, that is: "The bubble filter: what the internet hides from you", which gives it a slightly different meaning. Throughout the book, Pariser explains how the Internet's algorithms show us some information while leaving out other information. And no, this is not the result of a conspiracy or an ideological control attempt orchestrated by the owners of social networks and search engines, it is a consequence of our own practices and habits when being connected. We are the creators of our own bubble.
